Our predictions - Science Fair Experiement

We will investigate how ice cubes melt when sitting on different conductors/insulators of energy.  In a previous investigation we tried sitting ice cubes on a metal tray and a plastic plate.  To our surprise the ice cube on the metal tray melted much faster than the ice cube on the plastic plate!

These are the different options we will try:

Plastic container
Metal pot
Wood
Feathers
Paper
Cardboard
Glass jar
Carpet
Glad bag
On a table

Reef - The wooden box will melt last and first will be metal pot.
Niah - Slowest is going to be the plastic one, fastest will be the metal pot.
Jack - I think the cardboard box will be the first one to melt and the last one will be the paper one. Marlin - I think the metal pot will melt first and the wooden box will melt last.
Calla - I think that the last one will be the cardboard and the first one is going to be the metal pot.
Charlize - I think the ice will melt faster in the metal pot and slow in the plastic container.
Sarah - I think the ice cube in the feathers will melt first and the wooden box will melt last.
Korah - The first one is going to be the metal pot and the last one is the plastic container.
Connor - I think that first would be the paper and the last will be the plastic container.
Reed - I think the fastest one might be paper and the last one will be the Gladbag.
Ava - The first might be the plastic container and the last will be paper.
Declan - I think the fastest one would be the cardboard and the slowest one would be the paper.
Amber - I think if you put it out in the sun the metal one will melt fast and the plastic one will melt slower.
Thomas - I think the metal pot will melt the fastest and the slowest will be the plastic container.
Zacqlin - I think the first might be the table and the last will be the paper.
Violet - I think that the metal one will go first and the plastic one will go last.
Ashton - I think the metal pot is going to melt first and the plastic container is going to melt last.
Zara - I think the wooden box will make it melt first and the table would make it melt last.
Rhyot - I think the metal pot will melt first and the plastic container will be last.
Aroha - I think the metal one will go first and the wooden one will be the last.
Zana - The feathers will melt first and the metal pot will melt last.
Masen - The metal pot will be the first one and the plastic container will be the last one.
Tobias - The paper will be the slowest and the metal will be the fastest.

Sound Energy Experiment

This term in Room 2 we have been looking at energy.  Today we investigated sound energy.

Here is our description of what we did.

We had some spoons.  We had two each.  We tied string onto one spoon and then we put the ends of the string in our ears.  Then we hit the spoon with another spoon.

We sent energy into the spoon and it made a sound when it went up into your ears.  It traveled up the string and it echoes back in your ears.

Here's what we had to say after this experiment...

Connor
When you put the wool in your ears and someone hits the spoon that's tied to the wool with the other spoon, it sounds different.

Declan
When I put the wool in my ears I hear different noises.

Korah
The different sounds are different.

Sarah
It sounds like an old clock.

Tobias
It sounds like a haunted clock.

Zacqlin
It sounds very haunted and very scary, but once you put it up by your ear it sounds way higher, and if you put it down lower it sounds different.  But if you put it by the tippity-top it sounds very, very scary.

Thomas
If you put it higher by your ears it'll be like an old clock but it sounds like it was like a haunted one.

Reed
We hear it because we are putting energy into it.

Ashton
I heard a different noise when I put the spoon lower.

Zana
When you put it near your ear it sounds like in a deeper noise.

Marlin
It sounds cool because it is different.

Amber
It sounds different.

Reef
When you hit it, it sounds like a light noise but when you don't hit it it doesn't sound like anything, and when you put it in your ear and hit it it makes a deep noise.

Jack
When you hit the spoon very hard it makes a louder sound.

Niah
When you put it in your ears it sounds different and it sounds like an old clock.

Calla
It sounds like a monster clock.

Ava
If you tapped it with a stick it would probably be very loud.

Brooklyn
It sounds a bit different when you hit it with the spoon and if you hit it with a pencil it will sound quiet.

Charlize
When Sarah hit it with the spoon lightly it sounded louder than when she hit it hard.

Zara
When you hit it with the spoon it sounds cool.

Rhyot
When you hit it with the spoon it vibrates in my ears.

Aroha
When the people banged it I thought the noise goes through the yarn to your ear.
